How to Check Your Gift Card Balance (Safely)

Wondering how much is left on your gift card? Learn the safe ways to check e-gift card balances on brand websites, apps and in stores — and what to avoid.

If you've used part of a gift card, or you received one a while ago, it's natural to wonder how much is left. Checking is easy — as long as you use the right channels.

Method 1: Your brand account wallet

For cards you've added to an account — common with marketplaces and food delivery apps — the balance appears in your wallet or payments section.

  1. Log in to the brand's app or website.
  2. Open Wallet, Gift Cards, Payments or Balance.
  3. You'll see available balance and, often, expiry dates and transaction history.

Method 2: The brand's official balance-check page

Many retail and jewellery brands have an official "Check gift card balance" page. Find it by navigating from the brand's official homepage — typically in the footer under "Gift Cards".

Method 3: At the store

For in-store cards, ask the cashier to check the balance at billing. Share the code only at the counter, not over the phone.

Method 4: Checkout preview

Some websites show the remaining balance when you apply a card at checkout — even before placing the order.

When a balance looks wrong

  • Pending orders may temporarily hold part of the balance.
  • Refunds to a gift card can take several days to reflect.
  • Single-use cards show zero after one transaction, even if you spent less.
  • Expired cards may show zero or an error.

If something still looks off for a SaverPe card, email support@saverpe.com with the brand name and the last four digits of the code.

Safety checklist

  • Never enter your code and PIN on a site you reached through an ad or message.
  • Never share a screenshot of the full code.
  • Add cards to your account early so only you can use them.

Keep a simple gift card tracker

If you receive several gift cards a year — birthdays, festivals, work rewards — a tracker prevents forgotten balances. A note or spreadsheet with these columns is enough:

BrandValueExpiryAdded to account?Remaining
Food delivery₹1,00031 MarYes₹420
Fashion₹2,00015 JunNo (in-store)₹2,000

Update the "Remaining" column after each use. Set a calendar reminder a month before each expiry date.

How to spot a fake balance-check site

  • The web address is slightly misspelled or uses an unfamiliar domain.
  • It asks for personal details unrelated to the card, like your bank account.
  • It charges a fee to "check" or "unlock" your balance.
  • It pressures you with countdown timers or warnings.
  • It was sent to you by an unknown number or email.

When in doubt, close the page and navigate from the brand's official homepage.

Balance questions for in-store cards

If you're redeeming in a store, ask the cashier to confirm the balance before billing. For single-use cards, this helps you pick additional items so you don't lose leftover value.

Key takeaways

  • Check balances in your brand account wallet whenever possible.
  • Use official balance pages reached from the brand's homepage.
  • Ask the cashier to confirm balance before in-store billing.
  • Avoid third-party balance checker sites that ask for code and PIN.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my gift card show zero balance after one purchase?

It may be a single-use card where the remaining value lapses after the first transaction. Check the brand's partial redemption rules.

Why doesn't my refund show on my gift card yet?

Refunds to gift cards or wallets can take several days depending on the brand's return process.

Can I check a gift card balance by calling the brand?

Some brands offer support lines. Only call numbers listed on the brand's official website.

Does checking a balance use up the card?

No. Checking the balance doesn't redeem or reduce the value.
